John was incredibly knowledgeable and kept the trip flexible - so we could really slow down and ask questions but didn't feel rushed to get to the next thing. We learned about the geology of Salt Spring, marine life, intertidal life and even how the ferries maneuver. John also took photos along the way, and sent us photos of ourselves, some of the creatures we found, and some critter notes about what we saw.

We had a great tour with John and would highly recommend booking with him if you are considering kayaking while visiting Salt Spring. He was very responsive when booking and was checking the weather and wind conditions regularly leading up to the tour to ensure they were still suitable. On the tour, he is a knowledgeable guide, always making sure he was keeping a similar pace with the two of us and that we felt safe. The snack picnic and photos he took during the tour were also a nice touch so you don't have to worry about packing (or dropping your phone).

One tip - if you let him know where you are staying he may be able to recommend a route that's closer to your accommodations if you're trying to decide.

We had a lovely four hour tour of Samsun Narrows. John pointed out key geological and plant features, explained some key place names, and helped us view marine mammals along the coast. We had a nice healthy snack break mid-way. The pace was comfortable, the kayaks were in good condition and came equipped with a sail which made for a fun return trip. John is a certified guide with a strong safety focus! Kayaking off Salt Spring is a great way to supplement the abundant on land activities on this island.

We had a wonderful time paddling with John for two tours this past summer! John is the ultimate professional, he took the time to get to know us & our skill level before attempting any tour. He was thoroughly organized, knowledgeable & great company! Not only will you learn kayaking skills & safety procedures, you will learn from a master the natural history, geology & general history of the beautiful Salt Spring Island & surrounding areas. We highly recommend touring with this genuine gentleman!

My family and I had a wonderful time on the Long Harbour Tour with John, and it was definitely one of the best guided tours we've been on. John was a lovely guide, and made sure we were set and prepared, and went at whatever pace we needed. We saw starfish and anemone up close, and was accompanied by a seal at one point. It was a wonderful day on the water. Easy communication via email, clear directions to the meeting point, and everything we needed provided and ready to go. Thank you so much, John!

We've been touring with Kayak Salt Spring for three years. Each year John finds us something new and interesting to see. On our latest tour, we paddled to Tent Island. We saw seals, eagles, nesting cormorants and stunning scenery. John is always happy to adjust the tour to meet our schedule and is eager to share his knowledge of biology, geology and kayaking techniques. Highly Recommended.
