Friendly and knowledgeable local dive shop that carries and services a wide variety of scuba equipment. I've been in many stuffy and cluttered dive shops full of grumpy people and SoS is a breath of fresh air. They stock modern equipment specially suited for our tough and cold local diving conditions and keep updated on new industry trends. I did my PADI Open Water course here and plan to take other courses with them in the future. Would recommend to a friend.

I was planning my trip to Nanaimo and emailed 4 companies. Sink or Swim was one of the 2 that replied and had competitive pricing and helpful staff over email. The try on and pickup of gear took and hour and a half - so be ready for that. They also organized a dive master for my dives, and Donald was soooo knowledgeable and kind - I would dive with him again anytime 👍 I had limited space in my car for the rental equipment and the staff went above and beyond to let me leave it at their home so I could return to pick up when I had space - and only thing I would’ve changed would to have contacted the shop to see if my dive master could’ve picked up the air tanks to have saved the hassle (but I didn’t think ahead).

I had my guided dives on Aug 24, 2021.I booked my dives with Sink Or Swim Scuba Shop. It was my first time diving in a salt water in the dry suit. My local diving guide and dive master was Don, who was very professional, extremely patient and super friendly and helpful during my dives. Don also shared some useful tips about diving in the area and about local attractions. The shop’s staff was great too, well organized. We did 2 shore dives at BlueBack Community Park, Tyee Cresc, Nanoose Bay - Amazing experience! Every moment of the event was very enjoyable, and I will definitely do it again, when I am on Vancouver Island the next time.
Also, I would like to thank Shelagh, who helped with booking my dives and renting tanks and weights. All interactions were done seamlessly over the email, and when I arrived on the morning of my dives everything was ready to go.
I will not hesitate to recommend Sink Or Swim Scuba Shop to anyone, who wants to experience enjoyable diving on island around Nanaimo area, and obviously would recommend to choose Don as your divemaster. Thank you, guys!

Great dive and snorkel shop if you're visiting Vancouver Island. I come out periodically and try to get some dives in, and Sink or Swim has always come through with whatever I've needed. All the staff I've ever dealt with have been just the nicest most accommodating people. One of their staff even helped our and carried my 1.5 year old son and kept him occupied while we hauled rental tanks out to my truck. It's these small gestures that keep me coming back every year. They can also order you just about anything you want or need.

Would highly recommend them to anyone who asked!
