Only accepting new clothes will limit donations. Many people in Peterborough buy used clothing for their families and pass them along to people who need them. This way we are keeping clothes out of the dump and protecting the environment. Growing up we all wore hand me downs from relatives and friends. I find this decision perplexing.

I am not fussy with the YES Shelter!!!
I give them credit for trying to help people, but you see people in the parking lot next door, smoking bongs and at times passing out. Alot of fighting and àrguing.
I had an experience with one of My family members, and it was not helpful at all!!
But, that was years ago, and since a friend of My daughter's was staying there, and they were extremely helpful in assisting him with finding his own apartment.
So, obviously places can change for the better!!

I have stayed at yes shelter as well as other transitional homes such as abbot house. As have many people i know due to such unfortunate events. I don't know why they are trying to make it out to be so much better then it is but for me and most people the experiences with majority of the staff, the food, how clean the place is etc is terrible. You're already a homeless youth if you're at YES and they LOVE to remind you. You're treated like the lowest scum of the earth which you already feel like and they assume we are all the same, they lie to us and they think we are all okay with expired, undercooked, food or dirty clothes or not using soap and so many other things you take for granted. The staff working there take the best things from donations for themselves or there favorites as well.

Now abbot house, the shelter staff still frequent there but they don't actually provide any of the support they say they do not that most would really want it considering the type of support they provide. They constantly actually mess up the house for then it was before they showed up by walking through it with shoes and such. For those living there just like the shelter its all on camera. They lied about the cameras being monitored, the house has vermin in the walls and vacant rooms as well as insects, likely an infestation. The air conditioning unit in each room has mold as well as other areas of the house but mold spores in the air i believe are most deadly. In the winter the places has no heat. You have no actual rights living at abbot, its a program now and the staff lie about everything... i could go on but anyway don't ever go to the shelter or live at abbot house if you have a choice, obviously. You wouldn't expect much from a shelter or Transitional home if they were honest like this review. Which makes sense but why lie and try to make it out to be so much better then it is?

Some staff are polite others aren't so much and the one thing I wish is that there would be more like communication and last allowing things to happen that shouldn't happen and there should be more like progress with the letting people in process and kicking people out process because some of my friends were kicked out for no reason at all it's just yes I was through the program but at the same time I was struggling mentally and there should be more of a mental aspect when it comes to responding to the youth who are going through a lot especially whenever they have been known for like very serious things that they've done to themselves or others because when I was living at one of the buildings a lot of stuff happened and that's why I I'm not mentally okay because there was a lot of trauma

The employees act like its better then it is and like they do more then they actually do. They have no respect and the youth are treated as if they are not human or criminals just because of their circumstances. An emergency shelter so as you would expect last resort but nonetheless borderline abusive.
