If you’re pregnant and in need of urgent care, go somewhere else. The waiting is supposedly prioritized by a triage system. With that said, my husband is a first responder and has been professionally trained how to triage patients, and he wasn’t aware that a sprained ankle or flu symptoms was more of a priority than a pregnant woman actively bleeding. When we got to the waiting room there were about 15 people in it. All were assessed before us, along with the following 8 people that came in AFTER we were triaged. At 5:05 pm after holding my pee for hours thinking I would get an ultrasound, a nurse came to tell me that they don’t do ultrasounds after 5 pm and that I would need to come back the next day for that. When we finally got called into the nurses after 6 hours, we waited another 3 hours. In that time the nurse put in a IV lock and conveniently forgot to set up the bag of fluids, forgot to bring me a pee cup until I had to ask for one even after she told me they needed it for testing. Then my pee sat beside me for 2 hours because she forgot to come back to get it. I wasn’t checked in on once the entire time I had to wait on the bed whilst I could hear every patient around me be offered water and be checked in on. 8 hours later, I find out I’m in the middle of miscarrying at 11 weeks pregnant. The doctor herself was really lovely when I finally got to see her. Overall this experience was extremely traumatic during one of the most traumatic events of my life already. Pregnant women are not a priority at this medical establishment, in fact, they are at the very bottom of the priority list. Stay away.

I had a negative impression of this hospital before arriving so wasn’t expecting much. I have been suffering from daily cluster headaches / migraines for the past eight months which were getting worse. Previously my wife took me to UofA emergency and the care was good, they helped me while having a headache, then sent me on my way. Obviously the next day I had another ten hour headache and WestView is our local hospital.

It took a little while to be seen, as I think it does at every hospital. Despite what our Premier says, she hasn’t improved anything and the health system is still very broken. However, once in Emergency two doctors in particular were awesome. I was admitted, not just treated and sent home, and I stayed at the hospital for nearly two weeks over Christmas. Christmas Day in the hospital was a new experience for sure. Shout out to the catering staff who have kept me so well fed while I have been here.

During these past two weeks the doctors have tried so much to give me some relief from the daily headache beast, but nothing was working. They got a drug sent to the hospital just for me even, but it didn’t work. Even a repeat dose of Dilaudid wouldn’t help. I don’t understand why I was seemingly so oblivious to such powerful pain killers. Even so, the nurses would keep checking in on me all day and all through the night, seeing if they could help. Often they couldn’t, because the pain killers didn’t do much, but even them telling me how they felt helpless was helpful and meaningful. It validated what my wife had been dealing with for eight months.

The nurses were all such professional, hard working, kind, caring, empathetic people who genuinely wanted to help me - and all the other patients. Even those who were cranky and who I would not have patience or time for, the nurses cared for them so well that when the cranky pants patient left ER they were thanking the nurses like they were best friends.

We have found a way to put the beast to sleep, literally, and will try again tonight. Again, I asked some questions and the doctor listened, no matter how crazy the idea might have been. They made me feel respected, and they figured things out with me. I am keeping my fingers crossed for another blissful night’s sleep tonight.

Thank you so very much to the amazing Doctors and Nurses and everyone who keeps WestView running. I have been blown away and humbled by just how wonderful you have all been.

3 hours on the floor when the bed next to my wife was open. She was unable to sit and the only thing easier on the pain was laying down. Nurses said she couldn’t use this bed because it’s for assessments. 3 hours so far now on the floor . Rude nurses.

Went in at midnight with hubby with what we expected was a dislocated shoulder. Yes it took a while to see the Dr (as expected for any ER), but during the wait all staff were absolutely amazing. Making sure there were warm blankets and that no one felt forgotten. The area was super clean and wonderfully organized. We come from BC and I got to say, it was VIP treatment compared to the BC hospitals!! So grateful for all the staff and the hard work they do.

Complete joke of a hospital. There for a total of 7 hours, nurse checked my 2 month son out twice, second time came in and said “there is actually sick people here so you have to wait” I didn't even say anything to her.. she just came in and said it and left. Rude as all heck. The nurses literally stand outside of the room and talk and laugh about patients. Doctor finally came in ONE TIME.!took a look in my sons ears and said hes fine, if he gets worse go to Stollery.

Go home .

We went in for his breathing and heart. Didnt know he breathes through his ears.

Don’t waste your time bringing your kids here, they really dont care about ya. Just laugh and gossip about elderly patients.

This is a mixed review. Most of the negative applies here but there were 2 nice nurses that really helped.
I arrived to the hospital early this week for not being able to breathe with complications from a viral lung infection. Much like many hospitals in our province there was long wait times. There was a point where I could not breathe at all and almost passed out. The triage nurses directed me to sit at this chair so I could be assessed. This battle axe of a nurse proceeded to tell me I had asthma and that I was not using my inhaler correctly, and that there was no point in me even using it if i didnt have a chamber(spoiler alert, I don't have asthma and have never used an inhaler in my life and wasn't given a breathing chamber by my pharmacist) all of this while I am still unable to breathe, my oxygen is low and my chest is heavy. After barading me and telling me I just have asthma she says she will connect me with a respiratory nurse. Thank God she did because the respiratory nurse was one of the positives of my visit. She accessed me quickly, got me a chamber to breathe in and quickly found me a "room" to get me monitored. She is the only silver lining to my visit. I proceeded to sit by myself for a few more hours struggling to breathe with the occasional nurse popping in to get me to take more inhalers. At one point the doctor took the table out of my room and spilled my water and no one brought me a new one. I think this is the only hospital that I've been too that is worse then the misecordia hospital and that's saying something. Thank you to the two nurses who did help me and made an otherwise horrible experience tolerable. The rest of you wow. I get that there is no support from government but patients are coming to you at their lows and need compassion and support not to be ridiculed and ignored.

Was at Westview Hospital for hernia surgery this morning. I had a very positive experience, the RNs were compassionate, pleasant, professional, knowledgeable, the Surgeon top notch and the anaesthetist was kind and gave me the information I needed. Thanks to all of them what I was dreading turned out to be a positive experience. Thank you all

This place is an overglorified waste of tax money and time. I've been to this "hospital" many times for things that are serious to wait over 4 hours to be seen by a doctor. My partner sat for 5 hours with extreme internal pain not knowing if she was bleeding internally, sitting in agony and ignored. The nurses, doctors and staff of this building are paid to waste people's time and none of them really care about being health care aids. I'm disgusted and disappointed that such a place would call itself a hospital. Better off demoing the place and making it a senior center.
