Garbage company. Have been a customer for yrs to watch premiums increase consistently. Recently have a had a garage theft and they are demanding receipts or pictures for items simple home owner items and contents from gun safe that I have owned for yrs. Not to mention the potential dropping of vehicle coverage for 3 claims in last few yrs(1 run off lease road and into the bush, 1 wildlife strike at 1130pm(which labeled me as high risk for driving at 1130pm) and a hit and run in a parking lot that my broker at Western Financial Red Deer says will probably make them call me a high risk.
I will definitely be finding a new broker and a new insurance company

I have been Wawanesa for 31years and made just 3 claims, and in all 3claims they have gone above and beyond all expectations.
All of the staff from broker to adjuster , were courteous, professional, walked me through every step, informed me of what would be done next, never raised my payments hardly, there rates are a lot better most insurance companies.
From start to finish on all 3 claims resolved and closed in under a week, and they fully covered everything and repaired everything.
Wawanesa is the company to make you feel respected, they have empathy of what you are going through and willing to make what you went through right again.
Respect your insurance company and they will respect you,work with them not against them .
They are not like other insurance companies that look after there own interests, Wawanesa is looking after your interests.

I have been a loyal customer for 5 years, never made a claim, never missed a payment, never submitted a late payment. Today I got an email requesting I get a car inspection done on my vehicle - Wawanesa is requesting copies of the inspection(s) by July 13, 2025. If not received, Wawanesa will initiate steps to cancel the policy by registered letter. Consider I submitted an out of province inspection (same car) back when I signed up with them and it passed with flying colors, I find this a real slap in the face. What a way to treat your loyal customers..let’s make them fork out another $200.00. I will definitely be looking elsewhere for insurance in the near future. They treat their loyal customers like crap, avoid this company at all costs.

Been with them for a year now. All was good Intel I wanted to get a better rate because the price was $300 more got a new quote and then lost paperwork that I had given them a year ago now I need to get this information to them before they will more forward. Not very well organized company so just be careful.

Absolute scam, I asked if I had collision damage which I thought I did when I wrote off my vehicle. They spent 5 minutes on the phone telling me I didn't and they wouldn't pay for anything. They then proceeded to call it a claim and demanded I pay 120$ to have it removed. It's outright extortion, they paid 0$ and covered nothing and it was never explained to me that I didn't have collision protection when I got my insurance yet somehow they pay 0$ leaving me to pay the entire 20,000$ in loses and yet they still call it a claim? I've been with wawanesa for 20 years with a very good driving record. 1,500$ a year for insurance with no collision protection seems really expensive.

Better to go somewhere else.

Frustrating experience over the past two years.
Unfortunately, we’ve had ongoing difficulties working with this insurance company. It’s been challenging to get timely assistance, and when we’ve reached out for help beyond Maria, other staff often seem unavailable or too busy to assist. Our experience with Maria specifically has been particularly frustrating, as communication and follow-through have consistently fallen short of expectations. We’ve finally deciding to switch providers soon in hopes of finding a company that offers more efficient and reliable service. Insurance shouldn’t be this difficult to manage

Started with this company for tenants insurance, after 1-year I received notice that my rate was being jacked up despite making all my payments on-time and not submitting any claims. When I inquired as to why the rate increased, I was told that "due to the hail storms in Calgary and the fires in Jasper requiring payouts all rates are going up". I do not live in either of these areas and did not receive any payouts yet this did not seem to matter. DO NOT get insurance through this company, all profit driven and when they lose money they recoup their loses by charging their customers. I guarantee their CEO and share holders did not see a difference in their paychecks or bonuses due to the wildfires or hailstorms.

I have a clean driving record, came time to renew and my insurance went up another $350 a year. I unfortunately didn’t see the email about the renewal til it was to late.Definitely will be my last year with these guys. So many better options for insurance other places
