Canora is a town in east-central Saskatchewan, Canada, located at the junction of Highways 5 and 9, about 50 km north of Yorkton. It is known as the “Heart of Good Spirit Country” due to its proximity to several lakes and parks, such as Crystal Lake and Good Spirit Lake, offering outdoor activities like fishing and hunting.
Founded along the Canadian Northern Railway in 1904, Canora became a village in 1905 and was incorporated as a town in 1910. The town has a rich Ukrainian heritage, with about 42% of residents identifying as Ukrainian or of Ukrainian descent, and the Ukrainian language is still widely spoken there.
Canora has a population of approximately 2,092 (2021 Census) and features attractions like the Canora Ukrainian Heritage Museum and the historic CN railway station, which now serves as a museum and tourist information center.
The town is recognized for its quality of life, having been named one of the top 10 places in Canada to retire, and it received a Saskatchewan Municipal Award for environmental stewardship in 2008.
