What an amazing bistro in tiny Millbrook! The interior is fabulous, full of art and a spectacular staircase at the back. Even though we only had coffee/pastries, we were able to peek at the menu options and they were worthy of coming back! Definitely recommended and we will return to taste some great dishes. Oh, and the lady behind the counter was super friendly and accommodating.

We were looking for a breakfast spot and this place seemed like a good option. The menu is quite small, so there weren’t many choices. Service was okay and the food was decent. The restaurant itself is cute and cozy.

I visited The Peddler yesterday morning while passing through Millbrook with my 85-year-old grandmother. I am a Black woman and my grandmother is Indian. I support local businesses wherever I go—but unfortunately, this was my worst service experiences.

From the moment we entered, we were not greeted. The server avoided eye contact and made no effort to make us feel welcome. We seated ourselves, and I eventually ordered from the counter. I asked for a toasted croissant, and instead of being told that wasn't possible, I overheard the microwave slamming open and shut from behind the makeshift kitchen wall. What came out was a soggy croissant on a plate covered in condensation. When I asked if it was toasted, the response was, “It’s warmed up.”

If warming something in a microwave is what’s offered, that should be made transparent upfront.

My grandmother doesn’t eat microwave food.

What struck me most was the stark contrast between the curated environment and the actual human experience. The café plays warm, culturally rich music like Vincent Garcia’s Dulcito e Coco, hangs beautiful art, and tries to create the feeling of an inclusive, global space—but that warmth isn’t extended to everyone. It felt performative. Like culture is being turned up for aesthetic value, while the actual presence of people from those cultures is met with silence, avoidance, or even discomfort.

At the end of our visit, I had to go up to the counter once again to request our bill.

I’ve traveled across the world, and this experience stands out as the most disappointing. Hospitality isn’t just about what’s on the walls or playing through the speakers—it’s about how people are treated when they walk through the door.

Went twice - once for mid-day coffee and pastries, and tonight for dinner. Very happy both times with the quality of food and service.
Millbrook isn’t big, which makes it even more impressive that a place like the Peddler can survive. Be aware that it’s a small place and won’t feel like other big restaurants. But for what it is, it is very good. (Wagyu steak and black garlic creamed potatoes were excellent).

I have been a patron of this fantastic Cafe for a few years now, and I have never had a bad meal! This is a great spot for breakfast, lunch or even dinner as they are open later now! All of their treats are absolutely to die for, my favorite has to be their ginger cookies with a close runner-up going to their peanut butter brownies! Absolutely fantastic:-) all of the staff is fantastic and always super friendly! Thanks for many years of great service and tasty meals:-)

Cafe by day and adventurous dinner spot on the weekends. The Peddler is a fun and tasty experience. Fast becoming my go to place.

The food was delicious, the service by Diego was great in every way. We will definitely go back, thanks for being part of our Anniversary date. We brought the dessert for home, Brownies and Ginger cookies!

OUTSTANDING food. We were a party of 4. Had a nice light lunch and some beer + cocktails. It's was bustling inside, yet the service remained on point.

I had – and HIGHLY recommend – The Ratatouille Salad. Other people in our party had the Peddler Club and the daily Quiche. All delicious. And their HOUSE SALAD is light and super flavourful – dressed in a MAPLE TAHINI dressing.

It was EIGHT THUMBS UP.
