I first opened my account with Servus when it was still Capital City Savings. I was 10 years old and faithfully banked with them for 20 years.

I overlooked the fact that they didn’t have the same level of internet banking as the other banks in my area because I loved their quality of personal care. The Fort Saskatchewan Branch knew me by name when I walked in the door and always greeted me with a smile and kindness.

A few years ago I moved to Lamont, and that is when all of the trouble started. Early this year I started my own business and after trying and failing many times at using their online banking app, I was forced to open another account with another bank.
Recently (after a long legal battle with the CRA) I was notified that I was going to be reimbursed for some errors with my child tax benefit. After speaking to the CRA and trying to set up direct deposit for my new account they informed me that the payment had already been sent to public works and it was too late to redirect it.

I went into the Lamont Servus branch to make sure the payment would go through since it had been about a year since I had used that account. They informed me that my account was retained due to inactivity and that I would need to re-activate the account. My home branch faxed them the necessary forms and I signed them and they sent them in. I was assured (both on the phone and in person) that it should only take a few days for the account to be active.

Today I called Servus just to make sure everything was in order before tomorrow’s payment. After being transferred many times I was put in touch with a lady at the Lamont branch. She informed me that not only is my account still retained, and the payment will definitely NOT go through, but that the papers I signed weren’t to reopen my account but to release my 18 dollars in shares. She then informed me that in order to re-activate my account that I would have to REAPPLY entirely and undergo a credit check.

I have been a lifelong member of this credit union, twenty faithful years and I sincerely regret every penny I have ever invested into this company.

Tomorrow, when the CRA tries to deposit my return, the payment will HOPEFULLY bounce back and be redirected into my ATB account. Which will take another 3 business days, even though I was assured weeks ago by multiple Servus employees that all would be fine.

To say that I am unhappy with this bank, would be an understatement of the grandest proportions.
If I could give a lower rating, I would.
