This was a really interesting place to visit. There was a women who guided a group of visitors through one of the buildings and told the story of the sites history. It was very powerful and educational, I recommend anyone visiting New Denver to visit as it tells an important story of Canadas history. A quiet and contemplative place. There are books and other items for sale at the entrance

Moving and Powerful. Our guide, Ruby, was very knowledgeable about this dark period in BC history. She says the main reason why the survivors wanted this museum was to teach the children how to live and move forward if their parents weren't there, just like they did.

It's crazy to see that just not that long ago Japanese people were wrongfully imprisoned and this was one of the camps. It's very historic so it shows how simple the camp was but it also shows the ornate detail of the flowers and how the Japanese people managed to make it pleasing place to be. They turned it from a jail into a sanctuary. It's $20 for a family, seems like it's well worth it.

What an amazing Museum!! đŸ„°đŸ’–
The photos, layout and artifacts are laid out for best experience.
My husband's family went through the internment and we both learned things we didn't know in this exhibit.
I think it is critical to understand this part of BC history and how it affected so very many people.
I will certainly be back!!

To understand our history we must take evidence of what we have done. The Nikkei Internment Memorial has been wonderfully preserved to show the different stages of living conditions of the Japanese Canadians from 1941 to the 1980's.

The buildings and gardens have been kept in great condition. The main hall holds pictures and excerpts.

This is History.

When space is given for a people who have lost so much after decades of never being a victor it is of incredible cultural and historic significance. This is often the stories and truths that are over looked for one reason or another.

It might be a bitter pill to swallow but from its consumption can come lots of learning.
