I have been a customer of Mahone Bay Trading Company in Halifax and Mahone Bay for many years. Always a good selection of well-known brands and quality products BUT...
I had an experience this month due to the unacceptably rude behavior of one male staff person that will make me think twice about returning.

On March 19, I took time to shop carefully for a pair of walking shoes for a trip to London (both my feet have been operated on and are scarred). I chose a pair of Ara shoes ($250+) as I have had success with this brand before.

On March 29th, I wore them sightseeing.
They were so uncomfortable that I removed them as soon as possible. There is a ridge of hard material over the toe of the shoe that appears to be a design flaw or manufacturing defect.

I spoke with a very understanding woman at Mahone Bay by telephone on April 9th, gave details of the problem, and was requested to bring them to the store. I did so on April 15th. Unfortunately, I did not ask her name.

The saleslady on duty that day explained that the store has a 'final sale' policy (which I knew) but went to the back area and emerged with a man who told me that very abruptly and commented loudly that the shoes were dirty (which they are not), then walked away.

He did not ask about the problem with them nor did he engage in conversation... just left. I cannot remember being treated so rudely in any retail operation.

The saleslady did examine the shoes and gave me contact information for the manufacturer. I'm hopeful this will result in a solution or, at the very least, a civil exchange of views.

Meanwhile, be prepared if you decide to shop here as, by comments in other reviews, this man is known for this rude behavior.

I purchased the Pikolino mens boots from MB Trading Co. These boots were delivered to me in Calgary. The service was amazing, great communication, and very friendly. Great Work!!!!

I wish I had nicer things to say about this place. I brought two friends there and the man helping us told one friend that she had fat feet, and told the other that she didn’t know anything about shoes if she wanted Blundstones. He was extremely condescending. The only reason this place gets three stars is because the store does have a very good selection of high end shoes. I bought a pair of Freyes when I was there but I haven’t been back since the sales person was so rude to my friends, which is too bad because I love supporting local.

We received excellent service yesterday at the Mahone Bay Trading Company. We travelled from Halifax specifically to shop for 3 pairs of shoes. We were assisted by a patient, helpful, kind, and knowledgable salesperson. Will definitely shop here again!

I recently went into this store looking for a certain brand of shoe and was informed that the make I was looking for was “not leather “ and that they only sold high quality at this store . The man was rude and condescending so I took my $400 to the shoe shop in bridgewater…no judgement at that store…just good service. Your loss mahone bay .

I generally walk in and walk out. I've never found their inventory that interesting or the staff very engaging. But this Friday I wandered in again. The guy that approached me was beyond engaging. He knew the products, knew exactly what my tastes were when I mentioned a couple of my favorite brands, and took me on a tour through the store that actually ended with me buying something I never would have looked at on my own. I don't know his name, tall, dark curly hair, and killer patent oxfords, but whoever is paying him, give him a raise. I've worked in retail a few times and this is the kind of person customers respond to. Well done.

This is a store with excellent quality shoes, a great variety of styles, from elegant Italian ladies shoes, to sturdy well made hiking boots, and everything in between. Best of all is the help that Annette and Christopher offer, to make sure they search amongst their vast supply of footwear, to bring you the best options to fit your foot needs and your aesthetic aspirations!
Thank you for your excellent help today, both pairs of shoes I purchased were perfect, and super comfortable! I will be back!
