Richard is super organized - detailed email to help with trip preparation, and he arrives at the dock prepared with top quality kayaks, life vests, dry bags, even water shoes! The tour is thoughtfully planned to cater to all. Our 7 and 9 year olds enjoyed the experience of getting close to nature (sea star, jellyfish, anemone, harbour seals), and we appreciated Richard's local knowledge to help us appreciate the hidden history and beautiful nature of Nanaimo. We have done lake and river kayaking before, but sea kayaking (not to mention crossing a seaplane runway and BC Ferries path) was a new experience and we would not have been confident to do it without Richard expertly guiding us and cheering us on. Special thanks to Richard for patiently accompanying our chatty 9 year old in his tandem kayak.

We did the 7-hr kayak trip to Pirate Cove. It was a great day on the water exploring the area and experiencing the natural wonders, the unique ecosystem and geological formations in the Nanaimo region. Richard was a wonderful guide, he has so much knowledge of the history of this area, and is an excellent storyteller. We saw a lot of wildlife, including seals, cormants, raccoons, river otter, bald eagles, starfish, crabs, and so much more. I would highly recommend this tour!

We enjoyed our kayak tour with Richard around the islands near Nanaimo. We loved the scenic views and nature. Richard had lots of interesting stories to tell us about the habitats and history of the area. We’d highly recommended this kayak adventure!

Wow! This was definitely one of the best kayak experiences I have ever had! What an amazing four hour kayaking tour with Richard. I couldn’t have imagined a better day out on the water! Just stunning and breathtaking in every possible way. If you really want to experience Nanaimo in an adventurous fashion, and if you want a kayak tour with an accomodating and intelligent guide, this is the place to go. A huge shoutout to Richard, our tour guide who was extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic and just great fun to be around, he is fantastic - he made the tour! He made us feel right at home on the water. His knowledge and expertise is top shelf!! Such a great way to take in the beautiful surroundings of Nanaimo! Half way through, we also stopped at Kanaka Bay which had unique scenery with the best honeycomb erosion I’ve seen. I even ate real edible seaweed straight from the beach and saw so many purple starfishes! The quality of the kayaks provided by Island Romer were top-notch. The equipment was well-maintained and in excellent condition. The guidance at every step and taking us through the tour with exciting stories made it such fun for us. The views were stunning and one of a kind. What topped the experience was Richard’s friendly and knowledgeable guidance. Nanaimo is a picturesque location, and kayaking through its serene waters was truly a breathtaking experience. I highly recommend this place for your fun summer water activity. I would put Island Romer as a definite spot to visit in Nanaimo. We would highly recommend this experience for anyone looking for an active, enjoyable way to experience the natural beauty of Nanaimo.

Vandaag (Canada dag) een prachtige tocht gedaan met Richard.
Als een enthousiaste gids was hij niet alleen prettig in de omgang mar heeft hij ook heel veel verteld over de biologie, geologie, cultuur en geschiedenis van Nanaimo, de nabijgelegen eilanden waar we omheen hebben gevaren en de Snaw naw as first nation stam die hier woonden voordat de westerlingen zich vestigden.

We hebben zeehonden, zeearenden, kalkoengieren, wasbeertjes, oesters, scholeksters gezien. Voor walvissen en dergelijke moet je verder het open water op en daarvoor was onze tocht te kort.
Maar hij doet ook langere en zelfs meerdaagse tochten.
