There are lots of fun free events! Its more at a children's level but it's interesting for adults too. The town is packed during the festival, so come prepared to walk quite a distance from where you park.

A local guide at a visitors center in Winnipeg suggested that we drive to see the Icelandic Festival and Gimli... Unfortunately, the festival wasn't going on... We walked around and saw some monuments but didn't feel that it was worth the drive... I'm sure that our experience would have been completely different had the Festival been ongoing... Bottom line, make sure that the festival is active! It was a beautiful area right on Winnipeg Lake.

There’s nothing special at all about this festival. The one interesting thing could be the Viking battles, but unfortunately it’s performed by a bunch of amateur cosplayers who look nothing like Viking warriors. I want to see Gimli hire some wrestlers and a fight choreographer so we can see some real action. Otherwise, this is just another small town fair without a midway that’s over an hour from Winnipeg. Not worth the drive.

Always attend the parade, and then head over to shop at the vendors. Wondershows corndogs and lemonades for the win

Improves every year. The viking village is very cool. Would be neat if they had Norse mythology story telling. The Viking battles were really cool this year. Great fun for all.
