In navigating being the executor of my father’s modest estate I have had to deal with many new people, places and institutions. Lawyers, courts, notaries, real estate professionals, bankers, investment professionals, appraisers, out-of-province utilities and creditors, and more. And in what brings me to this review today, tax professionals. Overwhelmingly, with the exception of FCR, people have been incredibly helpful and compassionate in helping me navigate the process and the requirements. I’m writing this today after the third time I have been told I would hear back from somebody on a certain day or week and heard nothing. My whole experience has been one of long periods of silence, having my file passed around to new people multiple times, and having to chase people to get a basic response after weeks of waiting. The only thing they’ve been ahead of the curve on so far is sending an invoice, before I had any work in hand. They may serve businesses and their needs well, but based on my experience if you need tax help for an estate, go somewhere else or figure it out yourself. The whole thing has been stressful and depressing.
