Generally if one shows up to the hospital themselves after the sun goes down, I don't think they should then have to call some other place using a cell phone in order to receive treatment in the emergency room. This practice is evidence of how wildly privileged the people at the top are, that they likely can't even fathom financially vulnerable people having to burrow a nurse's phone because they either don't have one, they're worried about potential long distance fees, or they have limited "minutes" and thought if they just showed up they could get some medical help like one could even last year.

I found it very strange that the emergency was busy and people were getting treatment until the weekend... They seem to have a doctor that doesn’t want to take care of people, and just sends everyone home. Even the week day doctors warned us things would change with the weekend staff..

They cleaned house and sent a dozen people home..

My family member ended up back in emergency in much worse condition, and remained in an Edmonton hospital for a week. They should have never been sent home.

I will never go back to this hospital.

Was here once in 2015 and then again 2024 recently. Bad experience with both visits, between injury not being dealt with properly and then years later simply needing to talk to a doctor about a different injury and being met with the worst rude attitude I've ever been faced with

My friend's sister brought her 8 month old to the emergency room about 4 days ago, because his lips were blue. This was at noon. They had to wait until 4:30pm to see a doctor, who diagnosed the child with croup. I would love to know what constitutes an actual emergency in these people's minds. Absolutely unacceptable

Wife checks in to the emergency room, ECG is hooked up and there are very clear signs of heart problems. Doctor Mathrani kept saying there is nothing wrong (even the nurse disagreed). Family doctor expressed worry as well a few days prior. Furthermore, the docor said its probably a panic attack and perscribed ativan even though there were no symptoms of a panic attack and wife had no history of panic attacks. And the heart problems still persisted well after ativan was taken; then the doctor said xrays are normal (they werent even completed yet). The doctor would not discharge even though "there was nothing wrong". We finally checked out ourselves. Heart problems are still persistent, there is shortness of breath, and discomfort. There is a possibility that more severe problems will happen at any point but hey, at least we will be comfortable at home.

Moral of the story is that the Drayton Valley hospital is a complete joke. Dont go here, just go to Leduc and mention incidents like this to the MLA so the government can fix things. Also some doctors like the one mentioned need to go back to med school or at least take some upgrading.

In all fairness though, the nurses were attentive, friendly and professional. They are hard working great people. I definately feel sorry for the lead nurses that have to deal with some doctors.

For those nurses that read this, be proud of yourselves, you catch the medical mistakes, you actually fix and treat the patient, and often you know more actual medicine than the doctor who forgot basic anatomy, or in this case, cant read a ECG.

I received stellar service & care in the ER. I came in as a passenger of an MVA & felt heard, respected & attended to in a reasonable time frame for my injuries. Great doctor (I wish I could remember her name) & staff. I’m from Calgary so I wasn’t sure what to expect from a small town facility however I got just as high quality treatment & care as I would from my home city. I’m grateful for such positive experience at a time when I really wasn’t my best self.

I saw all of these reviews and worried about going in. I went to the Lab with an appointment and was in and out in 10min. I have terrible veins the tech who worked with me was fantastic, as was the woman who was at the registration desk. All together a great experience.

An understanding of the current situation in the medical system and world at large will go a long way in your experience. Remember these people are just doing their jobs and following the rules given to them for YOUR safety.
