When I ran for town council in 2018, I used Doctor Decal for my campaign signs, and they had a mayoral candidate's sign in the window. I asked the person working there if they would be able to display my sign as well, assuming I made the purchase, and they said yes.

After I placed my order (in the thousands of dollars range), I was informed that since the owner was already doing business with the mayoral candidate, she wouldn't be able to put my sign in the window. (This could probably be considered as a corporate-political donation since she would only do this favour for one candidate, which is unethical, not to mention illegal.)

Even though she went against what was promised, I continued to support her, as it was a local business. Another issue was the price, it was almost double what the non-local competitors offered, but she agreed to match theirs which I appreciated.

The next thing that went wrong was the colour of the signs. My design was yellow and blue, however the signs came in orange and blue. (In a Big C Conservative area) She offered a refund, but no service afterwards, but timing is essential in campaigns, and I still wanted to support her local business against my own political gain. Since I made this choice, everybody believed I was a New Democrat bringing partisan politics into a municipal election. I received the least amount of votes out of any candidate, because of my good intentions.

Would you believe that when she offered a refund she complained about barely making anything off of my purchase?

I personally recommend that you don't support this business. Buying local is great, but spending thousands of dollars against your own interests, for a product that isn't printed correctly, just to be unappreciated by the business you support is not.
