My wife and I were recently in the office this past week to book a trip with our travel consultant Sher. Our experience dealing with Sher was excellent as he provided us with various options and also listened to our concerns and questions before confirming the booking. Sher is very knowledgeable, professional and patient however frustration was mounting for my wife and I as the gentleman who was working on the desk beside him, a colleague who I believe his name was Ken was extremely loud when he had customers in front of him and also when talking on his phone to others making it very difficult for both of us to hear and understand what Sher was trying to explain to us.

Perhaps you can ask Ken(who seems like he is a very nice man) and may not even realize that he is very loud to speak a bit quietly so that we and future customers have a better experience.

Went for an international driver's license, in and out in 15 minutes. Don't show up with your own photos without them being signed and dated. Just let them do the photo.

I’ve been a CAA member for over 15 years. Through road trips, travel planning, and everyday support, I trusted this organization. But my recent experience at one of their travel offices left me stunned, humiliated, and heartbroken—and it’s something I can’t stay silent about.

I went in to inquire about a group safari trip to Southern Africa, hoping to get basic itinerary information to share with the group before we booked with CAA travel agent. I also needed Canadian passport photos for my own passport. The office was busy, so I waited patiently until a young man kindly directed me to the next available agent.

As I began asking—calmly and respectfully—whether they provide itineraries, and even before I explained why it was needed I was cut off. A woman in the back of the office shouted, “It’s illegal! It’s illegal! She probably needs it for a visa!”

She didn’t know me. She hadn’t spoken a single word to me. I didn’t even get a chance to explain the full scope of my request. But in that split second, she made a loud, public assumption about who I was and what I was there for—based solely on how I looked at this point.

I was speechless. I left without saying much because I was too shocked, too hurt. All I could think was: Why was I singled out? Why was I yelled at like that in front of everyone? I came in as a Canadian looking to plan a trip. I’m usually the person who plans our yearly trip but this time around since we are flying internationally all I wanted was to book it through a travel agent for all the perks that comes with it.

This wasn’t just bad customer service. This was racial profiling. To assume that I needed a visa itinerary—and to shout about it before I could even speak—was not only inaccurate, but deeply prejudiced.

I had already cancelled my CAA membership recently because it doesn’t cover the Canadian Arctic, where I now live. But after this experience, I know I could never return. Not to a company where I can be so casually dismissed, judged, and shamed for simply existing in their space.

Racism doesn’t always look like violence. Sometimes it sounds like an accusation screamed across a room—loud enough for everyone to hear, but quiet enough for the person yelling to never be held accountable.

To CAA: I hope you take a hard look at how your staff treat people who walk through your doors. Because no one—absolutely no one—deserves to feel like a criminal just for asking a question.

If you don’t serve coloured people, put a sign and I promise we won’t walk in.
