I love it here! Been coming for the last 6yrs.
We really enjoy it, so peaceful and serene.
The owner is such a beautiful lady she's so helpful and kind. Always giving us good advice on different attractions or activities we can do while we are here. I've recommended it to a couple friends and they've come up and loved it too!

My husband and I have made black rock a regular spot when visiting ukiee over the past few years. We were super excited to enjoy a full spa day and utilize their amenties for the first time as their lounge and dining rooms are a great vibe with delcious food.
What a disappointment to say the least.
The amenities were sooo dirty and not well kept at all.
The hot tubs were super outdated which could be ignored but the cleaniness was so disgusting.
There was a 3 inch ring that wraped around the perimeter of the hot tubs which was a built up of dirt. Hair balls all over the space including in the water.
The place clearly had not be cleaned in a long time whether admitted to or not.
The windows were also sooo dirty full of green moss. We had to pratically stand in the hot tubs to get a clear view.

The only thing that a good experience was our actual treatments.

While checking out, we addressed our concerns with the front desk lady and her response was "being so close to the ocean, we cant keep things super clean". A very poor response and made the situation worse.

$700 +++ not well spent.

We wanted to check out Manitoulin island and was able to book a cottage at Black Rock resort a couple of weeks prior to our trip. We chose this resort as it got a 4.3 rating on google reviews and the description on their website sounded like an ideal place. I have to begin by saying the website is deceiving, misleading and inaccurate. It says there is free wifi - which there isn’t and we only found out upon arrival, it describes the resort as rustic chic - which it isn’t, the resort is rustic, as in old and dated, but not chic, it says there is a private beach which is in fact a small area with sand and the rate I was quoted on the site was wrong and was listed lower than the actual cost.

When we first arrived we were told the cottage we booked was going to be given to another customer - which we found very unprofessional. The key to the front door of our cottage was lost and Karen, the owner had to replace it the next day. The grounds were covered in goose poo all over the grounds which we were a bit grossed out by. There we’re new windows, new front door and appliances but the rest of the cottage was dated and old. There were stains on the sofas, the mattresses were old and dated.

We were told we had to take all of our garbage back with us when we left which we were fine with, but we’re taken aback when we were told we had to take all recycling back with us as well except for beer cans and empty alcohol bottles. We found that to be a big turn off and a bit greedy.

I have to say the lake is beautiful and the view from our cottage was pristine and It was very quiet and peaceful. Manitoulin island is a beautiful place to visit and we enjoyed our time exploring the island.

We visited Manitoulin Island at the recommendation of a relative who highlighted the island's natural beauty and solitude. There is a lot of accommodation and it's spread across the island. We didn't have any preference so chose Black Rock for it's proximity to the ferry - it's about 10-15 minutes drive. Our cottage was very simple - 2 bedrooms, bathroom, small kitchen, living and dining area. It is very rustic so don't come expecting any frills. That said, the beds were comfortable and everything worked during our 3 night stay. It's also on a very pretty lake and we spent a lot of time relaxing on the grass out front as the nights were warm and long. You get what you pay for, and Black Rock was about right for the price. The whole place could certainly do with an overhaul, but part of it's charm is that it feels a bit forgotten. Much like Manitoulin Island itself. Since the trip I haven't met a Canadian who has ever visited! And if you get the chance, take the ferry from Tobermary - it's a fabulous experience, especially on a cloudless, sunny day.

Was on the island for work and wasn't able to call ahead for accommodations. Everything was booked that we tried and then I found this place! So happy we didn't settle for a cramped old motel room. For a very affordable price we had a 3 bedroom cabin, with full kitchen as well as BBQ outside and laundry facilities just a short walk from the cabin. |The view from the front deck was nothing less then spectacular! The lady who runs if came and sat with us that evening to visit. The quiet time on the dock in the evening takes away pretty much a months worth of stress and the water is so clear! |I was sad to leave the place when it was time to roll out. I hope to return someday.

Karen was a great host & it was so great to finally be back on Manitoulin Island. All the updates to the cabin were amazing & was so great to relax & listen to water while the kid's played & at night hearing the crackling of the fire. My family had such a wonderful time visiting & we didn't want to return home. But now are planning our next trip back.

We stayed here this past long weekend. My mother, sister, here two children aged 4 & 6, as well as my cousin, her husband and their three kids, 4, 6 & 8. My family stayed in a cabin as my cousin stayed on a lot in their tent trailer. We all enjoyed our time. Relatively nice grounds, despite goose poop on every inch of beach and grass area. ||||||The last night however, my sister requested the owner come and turn on the stove in our cabin. My mother and I didn’t agree it needed to be on but she insisted. The owner let me know when I was ordering more wood. She told me she didn’t think it needed to be on, I agreed but joked my sister is easier to get along with if she gets her way. I took my wood and carried on. She came an hour or so later to turn the heater on. She was chatty but a little intrusive. I shrugged it off. She was unable to get it going and I told her not to worry about coming back, we had lot of extra blankets. ||||||Later that night my sister went to the office to ask again about the heater (I forgot to let her know she tried unsuccessfully). I didn’t know this happened. We were all sitting by the fire, a few of the kids included, when the owner drove up very aggressively into our site (at this point it was pitch black) and nearly ran over my cousins husband. She got off and started going on with my sister asking if there was going to be a problem because of the heater. My sister said she rudely told her at the office to take it up with her sister (me) since I’m the one that booked the cabin. She seemed very intoxicated, slurring her words and seemed to be trying to pick a fight with my sister. She was only being polite to me at this point. I told her I didn’t appreciate how she was speaking to my family and it would be best if she left. She said ‘what are you going to put a bad f&%king review on the internet now?’ To which I replied with, ‘I’m not much of an online review writer but I sure as heck will now!’||||||She was extremely rude and swearing in front of the kids, scaring all of us by driving up in the dark on her mower at 10pm. She only cared to be nice to the one ‘with the money’. I might have booked the cabin on my credit card but it was all shared, and that really should not have mattered at all. The unprofessionalism was jaw dropping. ||||||We will never return and I’ll tell everyone about the horrible treatment we received.
