I recently contracted A1 Cement to replace my 45 year old residential driveway and sidewalks. From start to finish the work was done professionally and in a timely manner. All of the crews that worked on the job ( cut out crew, concrete removal crew, forming crew, cement crew and the clean up crew) were very efficient. Communication was top notch throughout the process and as a result, there were no surprises. Timelines were adhered to and the site was always left in good shape each day. Trevor, the lead manager on the job was extremely knowledgeable and added a few suggestions for trickier parts of the job that worked out really well. As well, there was some remediation work required on some decorative brick work that was displaced during the cut out process and A1 looked after the repair, no questions asked. I have no qualms in recommending A1 for this type of work. The people that they employ obviously like working for the Company and it shows in the quality of their work.

My driveway began spalling in less than two years. When I contacted A1 Cement about the issue, they attributed it to salt and ice freezing on the surface. However, since they operate in Calgary, where road salt and freezing ice are common, this explanation seems inadequate. Their website claims that "Concrete Alberta recognizes Dura-Mix® as the quality standard for concrete material for all exterior concrete applications to ensure it will last for years and is standard with every exterior concrete pour from A-1 Cement." If their concrete is truly designed to last for years, it should withstand typical Calgary conditions without issue.

Interestingly, the sidewalk, which endures the same environmental conditions, remains perfectly intact. Although I'm not a concrete expert, it seems unreasonable for concrete to start spalling in less than two years if it meets quality standards. If this were normal, the sidewalk would exhibit similar problems.

Based on my experience, I cannot recommend A1 Cement. Something appears to be amiss—whether it's the product, poor finishing, or improper mixing. According to my research, any of these factors could contribute to the premature spalling.

We were replacing a very bad crumbling driveway and A-1 was a referral from a friend and it turns out to be a great referral. From working with Russell and Beckie on the quote to, the breakup of the old driveway, putting in the forms, pouring cement and the finishing work, it was a class act and we could not be more happy. Our neighbors are impressed with how quickly and efficiently it was done and of course the workmanship. We would not hesitate to refer A-1 Cement Contractors to our friends, family and all others looking for cement work. Thanks A-1!

No one should be hiring a dishonest company like this! Safety is not in the books for these ones and from the bottom till the top of their company they are all liars! They parked in front of my drive way causing my car to get damaged. Guess what! They lied and said they had safety a red safety cone and didn’t block my driveway even though I have cctv videos and pictures showing the incident. They decided not to see the prove but lied on me.
Nobody should contract or deal with this company!

This company parked blocking part of my driveway and they had lumber stretching into my drive way.
It is strange that this company” lied” that they had tied a red safety tie on the lumber and placed a RED SAFETY SIGN in front of the truck which was never there at the time of the incident
I had told them that I had videos/pictures since I have security camera showing the lumber not having any safety ties or RED SAFETY SIGN BUT up till now even with the response below they have not reached out to ask to see the video/ pictures. Only listening to what favours them.
1) Which Responsible company parks and blocks residents drive way at will?
2) Which Safety Oriented company sticks out lumber out of their trucks stretching WITHOUT A “SAFETY TAG”into peoples property with no regards for Safety of the people and kids around?
3) Which Honest company resolves incidents from only one side without seeing prove of the incidents?
The fact is that all I wanted was an accountability and a simple sorry not a claim but they decided to lie on me.
They even lied and said I came back and threw the Safety sign in the bin.
This company could have been in business for 68 years or so but doesn’t mean their practice is ethical

Trevor Lakatos and his crew run by Mark at A-1 Cement did an excellent job of removing and replacing the concrete pad in our sunroom. The pad sprung a leak from the hydronic heating system and as winter was upon us, it was imperative to have the system repaired. His crew jumped to action and we were up and running in a few days. They did a professional job and also worked toward a cleaned up site when they were done. We highly recommend A-1 Cement for anyone looking for high quality contractors.

I work for an insurance contractor/vendor in the city and A1, specifically Trevor Lakatos, helped us with a small concrete project. We had previously hired another company in the city who do NOT live up to their name but in reaching out to Trevor, he was quick to respond, understand the scope of work, schedule, and complete the work as required through an engineer.
