I requested assistance from Christina of the Edmonton office in order to discharge a mortgage. I very much appreciated her patience, friendly demeanour and obvious desire to assist. The incompetence and failing system really concerned me. I’m lucky because I have the financial means and my mind is clear but I cannot imagine people who are in the bottom of society going through what I’ve gone through. That just says, I had to wait for months and months of delays only ended up with rejections. I will take full responsibility if 100% fault is on me, but no, I was given the wrong information at the very beginning of my application, I literally have the email trails of many staff including their supervisor in the email chain that gave me the wrong documentations to fill out and send to them.

Instead of recognizing their mistake, I was given the attitude that it was my fault not checking myself or going through with a lawyer.

The truth is I did double check but the funny thing is their website has the outdated information, and the processing team blames on the communications team as why would I care. Your whole organization didn’t have your stuff together and average citizens are the ones paying the price, the ones who don’t have the luxury to wait and money to spare. The whole system is not built for serving the poor the middle income, you gotta find those expensive lawyers to get your life back on track.

Imagine on top of everything is Canada Post strike and your family passing.

Advice: go through a specialized lawyer, figure out what you need before dealing with Land Titles office, better, don’t deal with them yourself get your lawyers to do the work.

And those with no financial means, I can only say, best of luck. Because you will need a lot of it.

Had to come from the Peace Country to Edm, one task was to visit this office to get advice. Found out it’s been closed to walk-ins for 8 months but google shows it open. Grrrrrrrr!!!!!!

Jan M was incredibly wonderful to work with, she was kind, funny, helpful. She explained everything out clearly and was patient. She was wearing christmas clothing to celebrate Christmas in July which really lightened the mood as well. I wish I had hundreds of titles to submit so I could interact more with her.

Land titles to remove outdated Bank caveat of a long paid out mortgage takes up to 6 weeks!! An absolute disgrace.This is a very simple procedure yet the Department thinks that this should be OK.. Should be done by the private sector in an efficient and pleasant manner. Frank Hall

Submitted documentation in October for a name change on my land title. Never heard back, called in January to inquire and was informed I missed a section on a form and would receive everything back in the mail including my marriage certificate. When I called back in March for a status update they were unable to update me saying I should’ve received it by now. I still have not received any of my documentation I submitted and they cannot look up my account as the property has been sold and discharged to a new owner.

Jessica and her Supervisor (I did not get her name) were VERY helpful with a number of historical Land Titles situation I had. They provided me with great advice, including stuff I did not think of, and were very patient with my questions. Amazing to see this level of customer experience in the public sector!(with no disrespect to my family and friends in the public sector)
