On June 11th, our school had a coach booked to Canada's Wonderland.
An incident occurred on our way home. We were on time and set to return as scheduled.
As we were entering the town of Roblin the coach struck the train tracks at highway speed. All children and adults were thrown from their seats and slammed violently back in place upon the coach returning to the ground.
I thought we had been in a vehicle accident. I saw my feet above my head and thought that our bus had rolled. Upon coming down I thought we had hit something large and come to a stop. After self-assessing I immediately turned to make sure the children were okay. Two young girls had been violently thrown to the roof and were holding their heads. The others were just staring at me in terrified shock. Upon looking at them I was able to see out the windows and see where we were and thought "oh my God we just hit those tracks at highway speed."
There is a speed degradation before the tracks. The speed changes from 80 to 70 and then to 50 before the tracks. We had not slowed down at all nor did we slow down through the town.
Within moments of this we were approaching the stop sign at the corner of Croydon Road and County Rd 4. The driver either did not see or did not react to the stop sign. We came to a hard stop that jarred us all smashing us into the seats in front of us. This was within 5 minutes of being launched at the tracks.
At no point did the driver check to see if we were okay, or say sorry, or acknowledge that anything happened at all.
The following morning at least 5 of us had lasting injuries ranging from back pain to neck pain causing headache to head pain where they struck the roof.
I contact Franklin Tours that morning and was forwarded to Mike Smith. He was very rude in his response and took zero responsibility for the actions of his employee. In fact, and I quite, stated âIâm not sure what youâre hoping to get out of this email.â I want your company to take responsibility and admit that mistakes were made. I want you to make this right!
This is not okay and reflects very poorly on your business. We may not know the name of our driver, but we certainly know the name Franklin Tours.
