The NWT primary health care strategy seems to be a long game. Appointments are only available so far into the future that you’re guaranteed to have either gotten better on your own or been hospitalized before you get to see a physician. You can’t get through on the phone though so you get to visit the completely empty waiting room in person in order to be turned away by a polite receptionist and sent to hospital. The directions to the hospital were very good though so they earn two stars.

Trying to make an appointment at this clinic from last 3 weeks, everytime they said you have to call back there is no slot available. I'm calling their clinic since this morning starting 8:05 and nobody answering the call or phone lines were busy, after 15 mins. A lady answered the call took my details and suddenly she said we don't have any slot left for today. The lady was so rude on the phone she said find the other clinic. This is the way they treat. They don't like their jobs.

The care at the Primary Care Clinic is consistently lacking, administratively. The phone message says 'We are experiencing a high volume of calls'. This has happened to me time and time again, regardless of what time of day it is. The two most recent times that I received this message, I went into the clinic within one minute of receiving the phone message and no one was on the phone, and no one was in the waiting room. I asked the person at the front desk about it, I was met with "deer in the headlights look". My experience of the doctor's care has been positive. That means little, however, when the wait times are unreasonably long to see a family doctor. There seems to be little point in having a family doctor in Yellowknife. I was at the clinic today to make an appointment. There was one woman at the desk, who ducked down behind her computer when I came in, and did not acknowledge me until I walked right up in front of her. She was there alone until I was complaining about the poor service. Then, miraculously, three people came out front from the back, one of whom smugly passed me a card with contact information for patients to register concerns. Wait for it...the email address is no longer in service! This is Canada. We must do better with our health care system. The service at the Primary Care Clinic is the worst I have experienced anywhere in the country!

Dear, Friends

This is NOT the Canadian health care system we should be proud of.
This is NOT Canadian health care.
How many more people will suffer/ die at the hands of incompetent "professional" health care workers? I urge the Canadian Government to look into the quality of heath care provided here in the NWT.
I understand that new doctors get sent up here to learn, and are most likely not to blame at all... but the system IS broken. People can NOT get immediate help. The front desk ignores phone calls (I have witnessed first hand) and then, when the front desk was questioned; "why are all the lines busy when none of you are on the phone?" the reply was "oh, I'm getting a call right now" (their phones are on silent) I do not personally know who is responsible for this negligence, but it MUST be dealt with.
PLEASE HELP Yellowknife. The people need responsive health care.

The staff are polite and doing the best they can with the usual healthcare pressures. The location in convenient right downtown. The facilities appear safe and clean. Much better to use of resources and helps reduce the pressure on the ER.

"leave your name and number and we will call you back" -never called back
"Line busy"
"we are experiencing an extremely high volume of calls right now" -goes in and NO ONE is on the phone!
The doctors get hundreds of thousands of dollars a year and they cant even check in on their patients. Worst quality of health care in the country. The employees should be ashamed!
