They got my information from a family member - extending a free policy. I heard them out, not before unfortunatly adding additional family members to receive a “free policy”. Later then to be told the policy would be 500+ a month. We politely declined and never heard from them since. But my sister in law has been receiving harassing phone calls over the past 4 months despite declining their services. She’s blocked callers and they must pass her number off to a new agent, and they start the process of calling her. If this company is legit which it’s seemingly not - they are additionally unprofessional

This company is a scam. They someone got my contact information and we’re trying to give me “benefits” but couldn’t explain to me what these benefits even were.

They called repeatedly from multiple numbers across Canada. Like didn’t just call once and left a message, they would call at least three times sometimes four and only sometimes would leave contact information. I asked repeatedly to talk to a manager and they wouldn’t give out anyone’s name and I asked repeatedly to not be contacted again to only be called again from another number.

It’s straight up harassment

I started a life insurance policy well over 20 years ago and they made a mistake by withdrawing my premiums from someone else's account. Not a big issue we all make mistakes but now my account was short and I could not afford to get caught up so now they have been charging me interest on the arrears (don't forget I did nothing wrong) I refuse to pay interest on something that was their error. This happened about 20 years ago and they are still after me for interest. Years ago I called them and after being on hold for 3 hours then talking to a representative who was quite rude still got nothing accomplished. A representative came to our house about 7 years ago and she was very nice and said she could take care of it, well low and behold they are still sending me a bill for the interest every year. These people are terrible to deal with. I truly recommend staying with a Canadian company. At least we have compassion.

DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM!! It took 9 months to be "approved" but a monthly payment was being taken that whole 9 months. Once I was approved they dropped the amount I would be eligible to receive exponentially (good ol' bait and switch). They refuse to cancel my policy despite multiple calls, emails, letters, forms etc. They said they would take my bank info off the last time I called to cancel, but big surprise they continue to take money out of my bank account 🙄 SCAM SCAM SCAM DO NOT GET TRAPPED IN THIS HELL.

If I could give 0 stars, I would.

My husband & I received questionnaires from AIL via mail in an unsealed envelope (it wasn't opened during delivery, it hadn't been sealed prior to delivery), allowing anyone who came in contact with the envelope to view our personal/sensitive information - I informed AIL & their response was this is a Canada Post problem & questioned why I was even concerned. I asked if their process is to put documents in an envelope with the expectation Canada Post will seal it? They refused to take responsibility and spoke to me in an extremely unprofessional manner.

The questionnaire I recieved was for a condition I've never been diagnosed with (my lab results, as part of the application, didn't indicate I had this condition either). I asked AIL why I was sent the questionnaire, they couldn't give me an answer. Out of precaution, I made an appointment with my GP who confirmed I don’t have this condition. This resulted in a waste of time, I booked an appointment to confirm information I already knew, taking appointment time away from those with medical needs & my GPs office was the last place I wanted to visit due to potential COVID-19 exposure.

We decided to cancel our polices. As my husband was approved for a portion of the policy we had made a couple of payments and were to receive a refund. The refund wasn't deposited into our account on the day we were told. I reached again and had to wait another week to finally receive it (the refund took nearly a month to recover).

If I were to write all of the concerns we experienced, I would be writing a novel. We never once received an apology for the horrible customer service and were only met with excuse after excuse.

This week we both received three text messages each, similar to the following:

Hey XX. This is XX, I'm the senior quality manager for American Income Life, your life insurance company. I know they reached out to you a few days ago. I saw that your policy was cancelled. This specific policy is very hard to get in for. If for some reason you are one of the few that cancelled because of affordability, it is easier to adjust your premium to the minimum, so you don't lose all of the money you put into your policy. Just text me back letting me know you got this message. We have your policy up.

Although this isn't the reason we cancelled our policy I find it very unprofessional & insulting they call out those who cancel their policy due to affordability, specifically writing 'If for some reason you are *one of the few* that cancelled because of affordability'... I was stunned by reading this, way to make your clients feel good AIL!

I finally responded letting the rep know we cancelled due to customer service and asked what they meant by 'so you don't lose all of the money you put into your policy'.

The rep responded, without answering my question, with: 'I apologize for the confusion, you won't be drafted. Please disregard the message.'

I responded 'what do u mean I won't be drafted?' I've not received a response.

Overall, I don’t have one positive experience to say about AIL, in the four months from initial sign up to receiving these last text messages this has been an awful experience.

THE WORST. Representatives come and go, and no one will ever call you back. We have been trying to get assistance for over a year. No one cares, but the payments keep coming out. If some rep in Calgary Alberta reads this and would PLEASE contact me, would be appreciated.

By far the worst company I’ve ever dealt with by far, both Calgary and there BC office don’t return calls or ever pick up the phone. Lady who signed me up for my policy’s used to text back but since canceling I can’t get in touch with anyone. Plus I was told 30 days notice to cancel and now I got bill saying they want 2 months more payments
