Dr. Hyams is delightful, caring and compassionate. His staff however? The one younger MOA was quite alright but the older one was incredibly rude. I made the appointment months in advance and even had a voicemail reminding me of the appointment plus a call to determine whether in person or on the phone, yet they insisted it was at a different time. I’m disabled and don’t drive - coming from a long distance and paying privately. It was only after I had the younger MOA listen to the voice message left by their office that it was confirmed I was correct in time. The older lady was loud and speaking about me ‘being absolutely wrong’ in front of other patients that really bothered me. Dr. Hyams is in retirement mode now - sadly - I will miss him but his staff? Terrible. The gaslighting and rudeness! I was a nurse for over 30 years…..there is no excuse.

Hands down the best family doctor I’ve ever had. He always does whatever he can to help his patients, and is always so patient and kind with my two young daughters. Jenn and Fanny are very helpful and kind always, and will fit us in if it’s urgent.

Just 10/10 care.
I feel so blessed we’ve been so lucky to find such a wonderful Doctor. So warm and welcoming.. Thank you guys so much for always caring so warmly about my family.

Highly recommend!

In spite of some dated ideas, Dr. Hyams is a really kind person who is very knowledgeable in his areas of interest.

Unfortunately, the older woman who is his MOA is a nightmare. I’ve required an urgent appointment but nobody answered the phones or responded to emails for days. By the time anyone got back to me, it was too late for me to get help.

I have heard her be rude to people on the phone while in the waiting room. She appears cold and dismissive in person. Forms have been lost multiple times and she gets upset anyone asking her questions.

The young lady kind and she is at least apologetic when things go wrong.

We have been with Dr. Hyams for many years and I really miss the former front desk staff. I am disabled and seen many, many doctors and never have I encountered someone so unprofessional. After seeing the other reviews, I can’t understand why she is still there because obviously there are others who have encountered the same issues with her.

Awesome Physician Dr. Hyams is and Jenn the office manager is A++++. We always get attentive treatment, email responses are prompt every time! Both were there for us 24/7 when my husband was recovering from open heart surgery, nothing but gratitude for them.

The front desk helpers and Dr. Hyams are welcoming and exceptionally supportive! They helped my 18 months old recover swiftly from his sickness. Usually he cries so much when encountering any doctor but everyone in this clinic created such a pleasant environment he barely shed a tear and actually was giggly towards the end despite being in pain. Thank you so much!

Dr. Hyams is a great doctor! I have seen him for trigger point injections. I feel however, like I have not been treated very well from his MOA. I was referred to him again for trigger injections and was told by his MOA that he took me off as a patient. That didn't make sense to me. I didn't understand. She was to speak with the doctor in regards to the re-referral but she never got back to me. Also, Dr. Hyams does PRP. I wanted to inquire about it and emailed but did not receive a reply or a phone call. I feel like the office picks and chooses whom they want as patients. Not a very forthcoming attitude. Now, I am not sure if I would recommend anyone to his clinic.

I visited this clinic to check a chest discomfort I have. After a huge monologue from the receptionist where she was talking about herself and how busy she is or that they're not accepting new patients, I managed to inform her that I'm not looking for a family doctor but for a check and treatment of my issue.
She told me that she'll do me a "favor" and booked me an appointment the very next day.
Next day, the doctor examined me and prescribed me a very strong anti-inflamantory and blood + electrocardiography exams.
My exams came out with multiple exclamation marks but the doctor never followed up. I called back 3 weeks later to book for a follow up and the receptionist started scolding me saying that they did me a favor (?!). She finally booked me a 10min phone follow up the week after.
Well, the doctor never called me back for our appointment and when I tried to reach the clinic, they had a message saying in a passive aggressive tone that they are very busy and don't try to leave any messages because they won't even respond.
If you don't want "favors" from your hard paid healthcare, find a better place for your treatment. They treat us as clients and not patients. I don't recommend this place.

Ridiculous and frustrating.

I was Dr. Ian Hyams' patient in his old port coquitlam location. After they moved to Port Moody, I tried to call and submitted online forms multiple times in the past 2 years.. no one has ever got back to me, calls always went to voice mail. I understand all clinics are busy, but absolutely no reply in 2 years is simply ridiculous.

I have to go to different walk-in clinics these two years... I still have this doctor as my family doctor on file. I tried one last time today but if still no reply in a week, I guess it's time for me to find a family doctor whose office is actually replying to patient's calls&emails. Too bad as Dr. Ian Hyams was actually very nice and helpful..

updated:

Got a first call back after 20mins in 2 years owing to this review... I wonder if I did not submit a review, would they still not reply as in the past 2 years.

The receptionist lady wasn't yelling or anything, but she tried to blame me for not emailing them in the past 2 years - I clarified i submitted the online form on their website and called multi times - she said no one is monitoring the online form.. ok.. then do not put the form on your website or have someone monitored it as should be, not a patients fault, plus I did call in the past 2 years leaving multi voice mails too, so no one is monitoring the online form is not a good excuse. It was really frustrating and even so, I did not raise my voice nor saying anything inappropriate, just still trying to get an appointment as i am in lots of pain.

She ignored, still trying to push to give me their email address, I told her I wish to get an appointment first then can get the email...believe or not, she then said, she wont help me and will get her office manager to call me this evening and cannot help me to make an appointment coz the way I talk to her makes her uncomfortable.

I hope their calls are recorded. I am a frustrated patient not getting any help, not a single reply in the past years, not the receptionist's fault and I have no intention to blame to her or anyone. Trying to blame on a patient for your own work mistake is simply not professional nor right.

Now it honestly seems like she had no intention to help me to book an appointment from the beginning, instead, they just called back to blame me or push me to email them so they could get away with it. No patient should take any blame because the clinic did not manage their customer service system professional as they should, nor any frustrated patient should take the blame for telling the truth. I work in customer service field myself and knowing how awful it would be to deal with rude and unreasonable customers on a daily base, so I always remind myself not to be rude even in situations like this.

The whole experience is simply beyond frustration and disappointment.. and again, I still think Dr. Ian Hyams is a great doctor. I also recall the receptionists in his old clinic were so nice and helpful, no attitude given at all, even they also deal with so many patients daily too.

I really tried.. now time for me to look for a new family doctor.

Reply to the clinic's reply:

I did not receive any call back nor reply to the online form from you guys in the past years so not sure when and how you explained to me as claimed... I had to see the doctors in the old clinic and go to other walk-in clinics because I cannot get hold of you, no one informed me anything about the transfer ever.. even in the old clinic, the doctors kept telling me Dr. Hyams is my family doctor..

And also, if that is the case, why didnt the receptionist lady just simply inform me about the transfer I was never aware of before instead of trying to push me to write down the email addresses and said their office manager would call me back to book an appointment..?

This is so frustrating and confusing.. but anyway, not gonna waste any more time to figure out what exactly is happening.. good to get an answer today so I don't need to keep waiting for another 2 years. Thank you.
